Written valuations are a crucial part of our business and we hold Professional Indemnity Insurance which covers all our work.

We are prepared to travel anywhere world-wide and at short notice for clients needing to achieve tight deadlines. All charges for valuations are agreed in advance and are usually on a time basis. Any reasonable travel expenses are also pre-agreed.

For legal representatives, executors and trustees we can arrange an immediate visit by a professional valuer whether to assess one item or an entire house contents. In the event of a subsequent sale instruction we can organise the removal and safe storage of any number of items pending entry into a suitable auction after grant of probate.

Probate values are set at what a particular piece or group of items might fetch at auction on a particular date. Our experienced valuers can help identify items specified in a will, and, if necessary, arrange the safe delivery of any individual bequests.

For private clients, Museums and Civic Institutions

We can create or update inventories for insurance. In a world of fast-changing tastes and fashion, values can fluctuate wildly. Our knowledge of the art market allows us to ensure that your collections are valued accurately and relative to current market conditions. We have wide experience of cataloguing large collections for Country Houses, Museums as well as Universities and can adapt our method and budget to suit your specific requirements. We can draw on our wide contact with specialists and are used to working with museum collections software and databases.

An insurance valuation gives peace of mind to owners of fine items as, in the unfortunate event of a claim, the item’s value can be fully justified avoiding dispute with loss adjusters. Our valuations are accepted by all leading insurance companies.

Our valuations can be done room by room, by category, or as a list. We describe in concise detail individual items over a specified value while grouping lower value items together. Values for insurance are often based at retail replacement but can be set at your required levels such as auction. A detailed breakdown of each discipline of art and antiques is given as a summary statement and an overall total stated at the end of the valuation. Fully illustrated and bound valuations can be provided on request.

We recommend your insurance valuation is reassessed at least every 5–6 years.
